Our team of experienced Massage Therapists are all registered with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario. We are committed to your well being and will accommodate each treatment plan to your specific needs.

Our therapists have the knowledge and skills to help you and guide you on how to prevent re-injury.  We are trained in the assessment, treatment and prevention of physical dysfunction and pain in the soft tissue and joints of the body.

Some people receive massage to recover from injuries, others come regularly to keep themselves in good physical condition or use it as a part of general wellness.

Massage is excellent to help reduce stress and anxiety, relax muscles, reduce pain, increase mobility, and promote overall health and wellness.

Our treatments are provided in a private, warm and comfortable atmosphere. Massage is for everyone, we treat children, seniors, athletes and weekend warriors.

Our therapists will apply specific techniques and the right amount of pressure to address your needs. Sometimes that’s a light touch, a combination of techniques or deep pressure depending on what your body needs. At Greenboro Physiotherapy and Massage we offer the following services.

Therapeutic Massage

It is a general term that describes a massage offered with the goal of obtaining a therapeutic benefit on a specific problem and /or decrease pain. This form of massage therapy is effective in treating any condition that involves soft tissue such as, arthritis, headaches, injury rehabilitation, frozen shoulder, carpal tunnel, post fractures, sciatica, back pain, neck pain, etc.. We offer the following types of therapeutic massages.

Swedish Massage

Is the most common therapeutic massage when people think of massage. This technique uses long gliding strokes in the direction of blood returning to the heart to loosen and lengthen muscles. It also uses circular pressure, firm kneading, percussion-like tapping, bending and stretching.

Swedish Massage Therapy goes beyond relaxation, it increases blood circulation, decreases pain, decreases tension, and improves range of motion.

Deep Tissue Massage

People tend to assume therapeutic massage means deep tissue massage. But this is not always the case. Deep tissue massage is great at modulating pain at more advanced stages, and creating a deeper effect in stronger individuals. It may not be what you need on a particular day.

The pressure of deep tissue is generally more intense than a Swedish Massage, but it does not have to be painful to be effective. If you are experiencing pain, let your massage therapist know right away.

Myofascial Release

Myofascial Release is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the myofascial (muscles and fascia) connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion.

These areas are not always near what feels like the source of pain, but can restrict muscle and joint movements in other areas which contributes to widespread muscle pain.

Trigger Point Therapy

Trigger points are stiff, anchored areas in the muscle or connective tissue (fascia) that become painful when compressed. Pressing on a trigger point can cause referred pain and can help identify the area generating the pain.

Trigger point therapy targets these sensitive areas of the body to apply sustained amounts of pressure to relieve muscle spasm.

Cupping Massage

Cupping therapy is an ancient form of alternative medicine that evolved into an effective treatment technique practiced today.  It creates an opposite effect from massage by suctioning the skin into a special silicone cup.

This negative pressure lifts and separates the tissue underneath the cup which helps to increase local circulation, improve lymphatic flow, release scar tissue, relax muscles and release trigger points.

Pregnancy Massage with Specialized Cushions

We work with pregnant women throughout their pregnancies and subsequently after their delivery. Massage relieves many of the normal discomforts during pregnancy, such as backache, a stiff neck, leg cramps, headaches, edema, and swollen feet. In Post delivery, massage can help with pain due to difficult deliveries or fascial restrictions due to caesarean section scarring.

Our clinic is well equipped with different kinds of pregnancy pillows that are designed to fit any abdomen at any stage of pregnancy. Women are able to lie on their abdomen during the massage.

Massage can help to promote a healthy pregnancy by increasing circulation, promoting blood flow, and encouraging musculoskeletal health. It can reduce trigger points, spasms, and hyper-toned muscles in the neck, back, and pelvis.

Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on technique that manipulates the cranial system, which includes the spine, skull, cranial sutures, and fascia. Using a soft touch generally no greater than 5 grams or about the weight of a nickel. Practitioners massage and release the tension of the bones in the skull, spine, and pelvis to improve the functioning of the central nervous system. CST is helpful to a full spectrum of pain and dysfunctions.

Including:

  • Chronic Neck and Back Pain
  • Migraines and Headaches
  • Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome (TMJ)
  • Concussions and Traumatic Brain Injuries
  • Insomnia
  • Stress and Tension-Related Problems
  • Chronic pain, Chronic fatigue, and Fibromyalgia.
  • Post-Surgical Dysfunction
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

CST is a powerful way to unwind tension in the connective tissues of the body, increase mobility and circulation, as well as promote well-being. It also involves facilitating or enhancing the bodyâ’s own natural capacity to heal when trauma or disease processes become overwhelming for the system.
